Where to find the best pho in Hanoi

Pho is quite possibly Vietnam’s national dish. It’s a delicious warm noodle soup which you can get with either beef, chicken or vegetarian. Although the Vietnamese eats it mostly for breakfast, there’s truly never a bad time to eat this must-try dish. You can find pho served in most restaurants and food stalls. The worldwide famous dish originates from Hanoi, so you can imagine that there’s some delicious pho to be found here. If you’re in the city, make sure that you try this noodle soup at least once. 1. Pho Bat Dan

One of the most popular places to eat pho. You’ll notice it as soon as you start nearing the shop – the queues can get intense. But this is also a sign that it’s a place worth going to, if even locals are queueing to eat here. The key to success when it comes to good pho is the broth, and you can get some of the tastiest here, thanks to the carefully stewed beef bones. It’s been established for nearly 70 years and has since then been one of the most successful pho restaurants. Note that it’s a self-service restaurant, so you’ll have to get your food to the table.

2. Pho Thin
Address : 13 Lò Đúc, Ngô Thì Nhậm, Hai Bà Trưng, Hà Nội



It’s quite a small place and is one of the more popular pho restaurants in Hanoi, so get here in good time or be prepared to wait a bit before you get a table. It’s highly worth the wait though, since the pho is quite spectacular and the broth is really flavorful, making it one of the tastiest pho you can get in the city. They have lots of choices here and their ingredients are all carefully selected.

3. Pho Nho

Another piece of gem in Hanoi is the restaurant Pho Nho. It was named after a foreigner came and ate the dish and said that it was “a dish to remember”, hence Pho Nho. The word “nho” in Vietnamese means “to remember” and it’s certainly something you’ll do after you eat here. The beef slices are tender, the noodles are fresh and the broth has a wonderful flavour.

4. Duong’s 2 Restaurant & Cooking Class

If you’re a vegetarian or simply want to enjoy a meal without meat, you can get some real tasty vegetarian pho here. The food is fresh, full of flavours, the service here is excellent and if you don’t want to eat pho, or your company, there’s plenty of other food options here as well. But the vegetarian pho here is truly spectacular and even the meat eaters will like this dish.

5. Pho 10
Address: 10 Lý Quốc Sư, Hàng Trống, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội,

This classic little restaurant is situated in the Old Quarter in Hanoi, and although it may not look like something special, don’t let the restaurants appearance fool you. You can get some incredible local dishes here, amongst them pho. It’s also one of those places where you get really good value for your money. One bowl of pho costs approximately 75.000 VND, so you can come here over and over again without worrying about spending too much money on food.
